Fig = Good Food
At first glance, it might not seem that Chris Dillow’s diminutive Atascadero eatery – Fig Good Food – could possibly be the home of so many yummy bold flavors. How can all that come out of that little place? However, for those in the know, the “Good Food” part of the name is redundant. You really just need to say “Fig” to get mouths watering.
After many years in the restaurant industry at the “front of the house” (as the hospitality side of the biz is called), Dillow turned her attention to the “back of the house,” the kitchen. While she hasn’t forgotten for a moment about good ol’ fashioned hospitality, her culinary philosophy is simple: celebrate local, sustainable, fresh ingredients.
Fig’s daily menu offers up up favs such as a poached pear salad with toasted pecans, a no-nitrate BLT sammie on sourdough, and a Moroccan chickpea and lentil stew, plus freshly made pastas and meats right off the rotisserie. Daily specials might run the gamut from spicy butternut squash soup, to a pesto chicken pizzetta, to hot pastrami on rye.
This restaurant’s wee size means lots of takeout, but you needn’t let that worry your pretty little green eco-head. Dillow uses only biodegradable containers and utensils, so go on now – go get your Fig on! It’s located at the corner of El Camino Real and Traffic Way in Atascadero.
